Frontex Situation Center Unit
The Frontex Situation Centre (FSC) was created as an independent unit within the Operations Division by a decision of the Frontex Management Board (26 November 2007), and started being operational on 1 July 2008.
FSC acts as the Single Point of Entry and Exit of information at Frontex. Its mission also concerns the evaluation and collation of incoming information, in order to provide a reliable and comprehensive situational picture of the border management and illegal migration situation at the external borders of the Member States.
In order to fulfill the objectives set for FSC, its staff performs a series of tasks and delivers a wide range of services, namely:
The unit has observed a rapid expansion since its implementation, with the majority of processes already established and consolidated. When all requirements are met, FSC’s long-term goal is to provide permanent assistance and situation monitoring on a 24/7 basis, to Frontex staff and external partners.

In order to fulfill the objectives set for FSC, its staff performs a series of tasks and delivers a wide range of services, namely:
- providing situation and crisis monitoring on a 9/7 basis, delivering early alerts and situation reports to internal and external customers;
- managing and processing all operational information proceeding from ongoing joint operations;
- providing assistance to Frontex project managers in facilitating and evaluating incoming operational information;
- providing mission awareness support, namely through the preparation and delivery of country information reports;
- developing, implementing and managing an information exchange network with external actors, via the Frontex One-Stop-Shop web portal (FOSS);
- performing media monitoring activities, including the distribution of flash media reports and daily newsletters to a wide range of customers (at Frontex and within the European law enforcement community);
- carrying out the Agency’s correspondence management/registration activity;
- acting as a key Frontex player in the EUROSUR project, with an important role in crisis management and situation monitoring, once the project is fully implemented.
- supporting the Agency’s first response on urgent requests for assistance from MS-SAC (RABIT);
